Atama performing at R16 Malaysian audition!

ATAMA REPRESENT MALAYSIA IN INTERNATIONAL HIP HOP EVENT IN KUALA LUMPUR

A new groove, Sumazau HipHop, stands out as integral part of the urban lifestyle of the youth where a balance of the old and new is fused to ignite a sense of belonging which bridges the young with the older generations. This music, although a new style is much appreciated by purveyors of nu-music trends. Atama having successfully creating this style continues to excite the niche market segment with his illustrious concept of tribal hip hop much to the interest of a global World Music Community. Having been invited to represent Malaysia in an upcoming international hiphop dance championship - R16 HipHop Championship originating from Korea. Atama performs at Berjaya Times Square KL on 24th April at 3pm for this inaugral event promising to wear a tribal outfit of his KadazanDusun heritage in a show live on 8tv. The debut of the world's first Sumazau HipHop artiste is much awaited by the music community in Peninsular Malaysia after having sold 30,000 units of My Tribal Roots back in 2005.

When asked about the debut show, Atama said "I was surprised that Korea Tourism contacted me earlier last month and invited me for the showcase. This is my first public show in KL and I am quite nervous about it. But I know that this is a golden opportunity to spead the vibe of Sumazau HipHop our music from Borneo and I hope they (KL people) can accept it i the spirit of 1Malaysia." When asked about Korean HipHop, Atama continued "Last year, when Korea Tourism came to Sabah for their festival, I performed with Sabah Bboys and we battled against the Korea national team at OneBorneo. I think their interest of my music came about when I performed 'Throw Your Hands In The Air' along with their dancers so I think that's why they invited me to KL. Korean HipHop is similar to Borneo HipHop because they mix alot of traditional music instruments in their tracks."

Even though criticized by some quarter in Sabah for his radical approach in music, Atama continues to create waves throughout the captive digital music community. In a breif media tour in KL last February, Atama had attracted a niche following of world hiphop fans. This was evident in the turnout of his live showcase at the Captain's Cabin that was attended by 800 music fans among which was David Carragain, French-UK Rapper and Senegalese Rapper King Lhota. The sell out show was evident that the rapper's fame is not only in his homegrown but also overseas.

King Lhota, the reggae dancehall rapper who is performing at French Embassies all over Asian extended an invitation to Atama to collaborate in an upcoming African-Asia HipHop Album to be released in France in 2011. In his current tour of Japan, Korea & Kuala Lumpur, King Lhota makes a breif visit to Brunei last weekend to perform at Jerudong Park Convention Center on his route to link up with Atama the Sumazau HipHop guru in Kota Kinabalu before flying out to Perth. Both artists share a common understanding of making music to empower the community through tough poetry and positive vibrations to keep their indigenous community happy regardless of life's shortcomings. Both artists are a huge inspiration to their younger fans respectively.

Both African & Bornean rappers combine efforts to produce a live stage performance never been seen before in Kota Kinabalu. The showcase theme entitled AFRICA BORNEO UNITED is hoped to unify two continent in a presentation of solidarity through HipHop Music, one being Reggae DanceHall and the other SumazauHipHop. The idea of this special showcase was conceived backstage at Atama's showcase in KL. The culminating of Sumazau of Borneo and the ReggaeDanceHall of Africa now it becomes a reality!

With no special guest VIPs or dignitaries on the red carpet invitation, fans of HipHop & World Music were entertained in a 2hour showcase of Hiphop dance, rhymes & poetry as PainKillah the young rapper from Tuaran, Ananta of Tenghilan, The Borneo MCs, Sabah's group in 8tv's Showdown dance challenge - The Borneo Soul Breakers and finally Atama & King Lhota taking the prime slots will rock the house with infectious beats! The event is held at a local entertainment spot on last Friday, 16th April. AFRICA BORNEO UNITED Concert Dvd will be released this on 30th May at KDCA in conjunction with Harvest Festival togetehr with his new clothing line YoungHuguan.
