I still remember the first car which triggered my passion for collecting Hotwheels cars. I already used to collect mostly 1/18 scale die-cast cars of which a large number are Ferraris, which is a little wierd as I'm not such a big fan of that brand. But as you know, you can't deny beauty.
My elder brother Sutha had already been a collector of the 1/64 scale Hotwheels cars for some time (10 years or so in my reckoning ). I don't know why but I never took an interest in them at the time but I suppose I never took a good look at them at the time. I even used to buy a few of the cars for him from time to time based on what I thought he'd like. I can't deny though, once you get into collecting them, you find yourself behaving like a little kid even to the point where I have "accidently" kept in "safe keeping", some cars from various kids I know. Heh heh. Of course I buy them replacements for their "lost" cars...

This is a car I borrowed permanently..
Now back to the car which ignited my passion for collecting the 1/18 scale Hotwheels cars. It was this car..

It is the 2005 Treasure Hunt Camaro. When I saw this car at a local supermarket on one of those hangy thing in the cereal section I froze and thought that that little car was one of the most awesome scale model cars I had seen ever. After that I was hooked and I must say it's been a total trip. I currently have a little more than 1000 cars (estimated),loose cars and carded cars .....

.......as I keep adding to them. Although I try to collect as many of them as I can I find myself drawn to the American Muscle Cars and anything Volkswagen... I have a Volks myself and intend a Hotwheels style paint job for it when I can. The flames I have now are inspired by my Hotwheels cars I have.

My parents in fact in my home in JB even made a showcase to house some of them. I can't put all of them there but it's a start. When little kids come over, they are made to understand that any touching of Uncle Prabha's cars may result in certain death... ha ha ha. Anyway I have told them they can touch my cars when and only when they've turned 34 years old....

It's an amazing feeling when you find something you've been looking for a long time, like when I found a Classic carded Drag Bus at the recent Matell warehouse sale. The excitement was unbelievable. The guys I've met as well have made this passion a hoot as they are also as/more keen than myself and have proved to be fantastic fountains of information.
Some of my colleagues at work sometime wonder why when we get to a shopping center at lunch I make my way to the nearest toy dept to scour the shelves... I tell them that it's probably I am a kid at heart... and no where else..
Anyone reading this and is interested in finding out more about this hobby can get more info at http://www.hwcmalaysia.com/ where we hope get as many Malaysian collectors together so that we can hopefully get noticed by Matell Malaysia so they bring in the full range of Hotwheels products.... I am soooo jealous of the American collectors for the stuff they can get..
