This movie got me into skateboarding and introduce me to a band named Red Hot Chili Peppers. With skateboarding legends Steve Caballero, Tony Alva, Tony Hawk and my favorite skater of all time Christian Hosoi in it was double bonus for me.
I didn't catch this movie on the cinema but on the television. Malaysia only had 3 TV station at that time, RTM 1 and 2 and TV3. It was aired on one of the RTM stations on their late movie slot being a school night, I pop in a blank video tape recorded it on the VCR. Watched it over and over again until I borrowed it to a friend, just my dumb luck he lost it saying that his sister recorded over it with a music video or something.
Anyways I was bummed about it, back then you can't replace those kinda things but the movie some how was stuck in my mind for all those years. Catching some of the scene via you tube really spark some good memories my high school days. You can say I was a casual skater, old school style, love those big fish decks my Ollie were so-so but I love riding my board all over the place. For me skateboarding was bonding with friends through a common interest.
It typical teenage flick using the skateboard culture as the backdrop as our hero Corey Webster played by Josh Brolin goes to LA to enter a skateboarding competition. Butt heads with the Daggers, the baddest skateboard gang in the area to make it all worse he fell in love the gang leader younger sister.
